First time circulated April But as academic documents of major groups go, this is first-rate, with 70 minutes of music, sparkling sound, and a chance to hear the group polishing their material in the studio. No radically different takes or arrangements surface, but aficionados will be especially interested in the appearance of the backing track to "Stranger In A Strange Land," a long-rumored Byrds original that had never even appeared on bootleg before.

There are two nine-minute versions of Stills' Bluebird. A trading tree release. They play a min Bluebird. This is the true recording done by a student who placed his Sony recorder on stage. Incomplete concert. Which brings us to the supergroup's ninth show and second documented live recording. There are two circulating recordings for the six-show run, the first captured on a Uher 5" portable reel to reel and the second offered here, both recordings have been dated over the years as capturing the 26th and the 31st As is often the case with tapes this old, playback wasn't easy.
The tapes required re-shelling and multiple playback passes to get the full recording transferred without squeaks and distortion. The result is quite listenable and hopefully offers a modest upgrade to the best circulating version. To pad the show to a double disc, 10 songs from a Nov 12 show at The Palace in Los Angeles have been added.
The mood clearly had moved away from pop. Sound quality is very good. This further improves on Compilation ' With nice artwork. It includes the 49 Bye Byes medley that included the America's Children rap. Recently surfaced Jan Includes 23 min version [cut] of Down By The River. A live recording taken from their US tour. Sound quality is very good to excellent. There is a marked quality improvement in the acoustic set beginning with Crosby's "Everybody's Been Burned," as if the taper raised the deck or mic creating a somewhat richer sound.

Find this if you can. There is an official release Another Stoney Evening that lists Oct 10, live at Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles that says the bootleg is from a different show. But the songs played are the same only the sequence differs slightly. Even the "jokes" are the same. But for the first time, the encores are included although sourced from an audience recording.
Material from this show included all the memorable songs from Nash's Songs For Beginners album. The final trio of songs - Ohio, Military Madness and Chicago - illustrated the protest sentiment in the early '70s.

Said to be a milestone for West Coast rock as it avoided the excess of singer-songwriter confessions to focus on mood-building and the wordless feeling of deja vu. Crosby's girlfriend had been killed in an auto accident the previous year.
Listening to the various jams with piano, violin and the twin guitars of Garcia and Jorma Kaukonen, this was some of the most original ambient music to come out of Read the Mojo review of the Crosby album in the Jan issue.

I broke the two hours into individual files by date and mastered them separately and then dithered them to Later in the year, three sets of tracks started to circulate under titles: "Acoustic", "Electric" and "Residue", all in similar superior quality. Some of the tracks were of suspicious origin, but the improvement in quality was obvious.
